Passport, Amazon to present on, “Demystifying Smart Cities: How to Architect the Cities of Tomorrow”

Patel, Bhatt join together to speak at IPI Conference in June

Charlotte, N.C. (May23, 2018) —Passport announced today that it has partnered with Amazon’s leader in Smart Cities, Hardik Bhatt, to speak about how to demystify smart cities at this year’s IPI Conference in Orlando, Fla. The speaking engagement is the first of its kind in the industry, where Passport and Amazon will answer the question of what it truly means to be a smart city. The talk, which is titled “Demystifying Smart Cities: How to architect the cities of tomorrow” will take place from 4:15-5 p.m., Tuesday, June 5.

“Technology is evolving at lightning speed but cities’ physical infrastructure and systems have not necessarily caught up, therefore putting an immense amount of pressure on city leaders to find solutions for increased congestion and other challenges,” said Devin Patel, VP of business development from Passport. “As new services such as Uber or Lyft have been introduced, there is an increasing demand for integrating them with cities’ transportation and curb-management initiatives.”

Passport recently announced a partnershipwith the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) light rail and Lyft to offer a first mile/last mile solution to the city’s commuters. The program improves the transit agency’s connectivity to its customers in an innovative and cost effective way by enabling CATS to expend funds for trips only when demand is needed versus running a costly route all day with multiple buses.

“There is an unprecedented shift happening in how cities operate as our world is driven by real-time demand,” said Hardik Bhatt, Amazon Web Services’ Smart Cities and Mobility leader. “However, even some of the largest cities in the world have yet to figure out how to keep up with this change and how to become smarter, more connected cities.”

Seating in this speaking session will be limited so IPI attendees are encouraged to arrive early and add this session to their schedule. More information on this session can be found at http://ipiconference.parking.org/2018/learning_labs.cfm.

Babylon Village introduces new parking app, PassportParking®, for ease, convenience

Mobile parking app provides a simpler way to pay

Babylon, NY (May 1, 2018) — The Village of Babylon announces the launch of PassportParking®, a mobile parking application that allows parkers to pay for their parking through their smartphones. The app is powered by the global leader of mobile payments for parking and transit, Passport, serving cities and universities throughout North America.

In addition to paying for parking, users can:

  • Monitor their parking sessions
  • Extend sessions remotely
  • Store funds in a dedicated wallet
  • View payment history
  • Receive email receipts

This is the first time Babylon Village will have a mobile payment option. The app will be available for nearly 1,000 off-street parking spaces primarily in the commuter lots and commercial spaces. Currently, the village only has pay stations available in these lots and spaces. This more traditional payment method will still be available for those who choose to use it.

“The PassportParking® app will give commuters the option to pay directly from their smartphones. This type of convenience will benefit all who commute from Babylon Village,” said Babylon Village Mayor Ralph Scordino. “The ability to extend the time on the meter while in New York City is something that we have wanted to offer for a long time. With Passport, it is quick and easy to add more time, if for example, you work overtime or you go to a show and decide to come back later than you originally planned. Passport will make the commuter parking more user-friendly.”

Babylon Village will provide a wallet option within the app which allow users to upload funds into their PassportParking account. The initial upload would be for $20 with an option to reload in $10 increments.

“Mornings are a lot easier when you can avoid walking to a pay station to pay for parking, especially when running late for the train. The PassportParking app eliminates this hassle and allows you to park right from your smartphone in your vehicle or on the go,” said Alexandra Wells, Passport Northeast executive.

The PassportParking app is free to download through the App Storeor Google Play. Users can also manage their parking at ppprk.com. The app is also accessible in White Plains and Elmsford.

New Passport-powered app, makes parking around the city and at events a breeze

Louisville, KY (April 21, 2018) — The City of Louisville announces the launch of the mobile parking app, Go 502, ahead of its annual Thunder Over Louisville event this weekend. Passport, the global parking technology leader that powers parking apps for cities like Boston, Toronto, Chicago and Miami, pioneered the branded parking application. The app will be available for on-street parking spaces and for the first time in Passport history, users will be able to use the app in gated parking garages.

Parkers will be able to easily download the Go 502 app to their smartphones and pay for parking with a debit or credit card without having to visit the payment station. In gated parking garages motorists will scan the barcode on their phones which will authorize the form of payment on file. Upon exiting the garage, the motorists will then scan the app’s QR code near the gate to exit. The app will charge for the time parked in the garage.

With the app, motorists will also have the option to extend their parking sessions remotely, receive notifications when their sessions are low on time, and get email receipts. In addition to parking, the app allows users to pay parking citations with a few simple clicks.

To make parking easier, Go 502 features a digital wallet which provides parkers with the ability to preload funds using their debit or credit cards to pay for parking. Parkers can take advantage of the following wallet deals:

  • Add $23 to your wallet and get $2 in additional funds to spend
  • Add $9 to your wallet and get $1 in additional funds to spend

The Go 502 app will be available in more than 5,000 parking spaces across Louisville, including downtown on-street parking, gated garages and in Riverside parking lots. Users who have the PassportParking app would need to upgrade to the Go 502 app for accessibility in both lots and gated garages. The Go 502 app is available where signage is posted.

“We’re thrilled to launch a unique app that fits our city’s needs,” said Tiffany Smith, Director of Parking Authority of River City, Inc. “By continuing our partnership with Passport, we are able to provide our community with an app that improves the parking experience, as well as allows us to add invaluable technology integrations in the future.”

“Passport is extremely proud to expand its partnership with the City of Louisville,” said David Singletary, Vice President of Sales at Passport. “Go 502 will provide a custom and efficient transportation ecosystem that’s tailored to fit the city’s residents and visitors, alike.”

The Go 502 app is free to download in the App Store and Google Play. Users can also learn more about the app on gotolouisville.com.

Mt. Lebanon makes parking as easy as a swipe of a finger with the PassportParking® mobile app

Mt. Lebanon makes parking as easy as a swipe of a finger with the PassportParking® mobile app

The automobile suburb introduces parking conveniences

Mt. Lebanon, Pa. (April 5, 2018) — Mt. Lebanon announces the launch of its first mobile app for parking, PassportParking®, which allows parkers to pay for their parking on the go. The app is powered by the global leader of mobile payments for parking and transit, Passport, serving cities and universities throughout North America.

In addition to paying for parking, users can:

  • Monitor their parking sessions
  • Extend sessions remotely
  • View payment history
  • Receive email receipts

Mt. Lebanon, one of Pittsburgh’s original suburbs, grew its community first by trains and trolleys, then by the automobile, hence the name the “automobile suburb”. The township, which is known for many firsts, will offer mobile payments as a means of incorporating more technology and to provide a convenient option for motorists. The app is accessible in more than 400 on-street and off-street metered spaces, and at the Academy Avenue Lot. Traditional payments methods are still accessible through meters and pay stations.

“The app is part of the city’s five-year upgrade of parking facilities and services, which includes about $180,000 in updates to the two municipal garages and $45,000 in software,” said Andrew McCreery, Mt. Lebanon Finance Director. “We’re excited to bring the convenience of mobile parking to our residents and guests.”

“Passport is thrilled to partner with Mt. Lebanon on its parking initiatives and help the city meet its goals,” said Alexandra Wells, Passport Northeast executive. “I know residents and guests in Mt. Lebanon will love the ease and convenience of the PassportParking app. It gives them the freedom and flexibility of paying for parking through the touch of a button.”

Passport is the industry’s leading mobile technology solution specializing in enterprise business applications and payments for the public and private sectors. The PassportParking app is also available in other nearby cities including Bridgeville, Kennett Square in Pittsburgh and New Castle. The app is free to download through the App Store or Google Play. Users can also manage their parking at ppprk.com.

Metra commuters and Chicagoans have used PassportParking® and ParkChicago apps over 40 million times

Apps make getting around Chicagoland easier, more convenient and faster

Chicago, Ill. (April 3, 2018) — If the 20th century is considered the century of the automobile, then the 21st century will evolve with citizens at the helm of how they commute through a variety of innovations in transportation.

Today, Chicagoland commuters have more choices than ever. While 50 percent of commuters are opting to drive during their weekday commute, the other 50 percent are opting for a quicker and more convenient way into the Chicago Loop with public transit. Price is always seen as a determining factor to how people travel but time is becoming increasingly more important.

According to Passport, the global leader of mobile payments for parking and transit, the City of Chicago as well as the towns and villages near Chicago have turned to technology to make driving and commuting across Chicagoland easier through mobile parking payment apps. Parkers in the city can have been using the ParkChicago app, made by Passport, to pay for parking on the go in the city’s more than 36,000 on-street parking spaces, and at the same time over 70 Metra park-and-ride lots along Chicago’s commuter line have implemented the PassportParking® app. In total, Chicagoans have used the Passport-powered apps over 40 million times in the last 5 years to pay for parking from the convenience of their smartphones.

The Passport parking apps are found to be an easy alternative to traditional payment methods, like paystations or cash boxes. The apps enable motorists to start and extend parking sessions remotely, allowing Metra riders to take the train while avoiding lines to pay. The apps send alerts and notifications about parking sessions; provide payment history; and email receipts at the end of each parking session.

“Towns and villages want to provide the same conveniences of major cities like Chicago,” said Passport executive David Singletary of the surge in Illinois clients. “The old way of parking at a commuter lot is time-consuming and outdated. Add Illinois’ often inclement weather to the scenario and it can be uncomfortable and frustrating—day after day. The Passport mobile payment system smoothes over all of those friction points.”

Metra has 11 separate lines connected to the Chicago Loop, and serves more than 100 communities at 241 rail stations. According to Metra, the commuter rail line travels nearly 500 route miles and has an average weekday ridership of almost 300,000 people. In The Daily Line podcast, “Predicting the Future of Transportation in Chicago,” Audrey Wennink, director of transportation policy at The Metropolitan Planning Council, shared how people are moving in cities like Chicago. “The only two cities that have more transit riders are Los Angeles and New York City—really dense cities. Most other cities have 75-80 percent of drivers. As we move into the future, we have to make sure we sustain our transit system. It’s a real jewel,” said Wennink.

Moovit Insights reports that the average commute in Chicago is 86 minutes, similar to commutes in Los Angeles and New York City. The morning travel time is often made longer when motorists must drive to the nearest commuter parking lot and pay for parking with outdated methods. Depending on the Metra lot, people must cram cash into a metal box to pay (with no proof of payment provided); or walk to a machine and punch in the space or plate number; or lastly, go to a pay-and-display station where they pay at a machine, grab a ticket and walk back to the vehicle to display the ticket on the windshield, all while racing to board the train. Simply put: the time adds up, and the experience can be problematic, especially if the rider forgets cash or misses the train. However, with the PassportParking app, commuters can simply park, and pay on the go from wherever they may be.

“As the needs of commuters in Chicago continue to change and grow, the technology options need to align. The PassportParking app provides a much-needed convenience to daily commutes,” said Singletary.

Passport is the industry’s leading mobile technology solution specializing in enterprise business applications and payments for the public and private sectors. The company partners with more than 60 municipalities in Illinois. The PassportParking app is free to download through the App Store or Google Play. Users can also manage their parking at ppprk.com.
