DUBLIN CITY COUNCIL TO REVOLUTIONISE KERBSIDE RESTRICTION MANAGEMENT IN REPUBLIC OF IRELAND WITH APPYWAY’S TRAFFIC SUITE

  • Dublin City Council is innovating its kerbside restriction management process with AppyWay’s suite of management tools, aptly named Traffic Suite
  • By transforming how they manage their kerbside the City Council will be able to better understand how their kerbside is being used and improve data accuracy
  • The adoption of Traffic Suite, in particular the management tool Mapper, is enabling the City Council to rapidly streamline an outdated and often time-consuming process
  • Now live with the solution, Dublin City Council has much more control over their kerbside assets and is empowered with better data to make more informed decisions

Wednesday 14th December 2022, London, UK, AppyWay the intelligent kerbside organisation empowering local governments to kick-start decarbonisation efforts, has today announced the adoption of its kerbside management solution, Traffic Suite, by its first international customer, Dublin City Council.

Dublin City Council approached AppyWay to transform their restriction management process to better understand how their kerbside is being used and to ensure they have more control over their kerbside assets and restriction data. The key goal for the City Council was to look at new and innovative ways to encourage the efficient and sustainable use of loading bays as a part of the Senator Project.

The Senator project is funded under European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme and aims at finding possible solutions to solve the challenges of logistics in urban areas. Dublin, as one of the two Urban Living Labs, is providing pilot site where solutions will be tested, readjusted, and improved to fit the urban environment.

The adoption of Traffic Suite, in particular the Mapper solution for kerbside management allows the City Council to manage their restrictions in Mapper from a highly accurate data set. This was made possible by an extensive kerbside restriction survey by Cyclomedia.

Now live with Traffic Suite, Dublin City Council is exploring a number of the benefits that digitised, map-based restriction management can bring. This would include exploring huge efficiencies within their management process and workflows, and improved accuracy of restriction records. The City Council have also found wide-ranging opportunities for data sharing across services and external mobility operators which includes the Senator Partners for the Senator platform development.

Dan Hubert, Founder & CEO, AppyWay comments, “We’re thrilled have Dublin City Council onboard and proving the benefits of the Traffic Suite and Mapper to an international audience. The outdated and cumbersome management of kerbside restrictions is a global issue, and one that is causing decarbonisation efforts to stagnate. Without streamlined restriction management processes, and easily understood and sharable restriction data, councils are frequently left struggling to rollout initiatives such as electric vehicle charge points, active travel promotion, or create more efficient, sustainable access to loading bays.”

“With Dublin City Council we’re able to put them on the front-foot of kerbside management, empowering them with the tools, processes, and open data they need to make smarter kerbside decisions and make the Senator Urban Living Lab a success.”

Jamie Cudden, Smart City Programme Manager, Dublin City Council quotes

“With increasing ecommerce and thriving businesses, the city centre of Dublin is becoming more and more congested, and it is necessary for us to understand and manage the kerb assets more efficiently using digital tools. The kerbside management can be transformational for the city.  We are delighted to partner with AppyWay and look forward to piloting the mapper solution to digitise the streets of Dublin.”

Cleverciti Sensors Bring Smart Parking to the Busiest Shopping Street in Koblenz

Cleverciti Sensors Bring Smart Parking to the Busiest Shopping Street in Koblenz

City of Koblenz and evm Have Kicked off Their Smart City Projects with a Smart Parking Initiative Using Cleverciti Sensors

Less traffic looking for a parking space, fewer harmful emissions, a better quality of life: three funded smart city projects promise great progress in climate protection in the city of Koblenz. Together, Energieversorgung Mittelrhein (evm) and the city intend to use modern digital solutions to achieve better air quality and air pollution control.

In July 2020 the evm announced the kick-off of the project in the upper Löhrstrasse. The busy shopping street plays a central role in the project: “We are going to test smart parking in the upper Löhrstrasse and want to reduce the so-called parking search traffic here,” explains Lord Mayor of Koblenz David Langner.

In the next few weeks, certain parking spaces along the street will be equipped with 44 ground sensors that will provide information on occupancy. “In another part of the street, overhead sensors are used as well, which we install on street lamps,” explains evm Board Chairman Josef Rönz. One sensor is able to detect up to 100 parking spaces. Digital display boards around the lampposts use this information to show drivers how many parking spaces are still available. Data protection is fully guaranteed: the sensors neither record videos nor photos, but only pass on information according to the pattern “occupied” and “not occupied”.

One look at the statistics shows why it is important to reduce parking search traffic in Koblenz: between 18-25% of traffic in the city center is due to the search for parking spaces. This is one of the reasons why Koblenz exceeded the NOx (Nitrogen Oxides) limit value determined by the European Union – and thus has access to federal funds. The Federal Ministry of Transport is funding the Smart Parking project with around 170,000 euros from the “Saubere Luft” (Clean Air) program and the associated “Digitalisierung kommunaler Verkehrssysteme” fund (Digitization of municipal transport systems).

On September 30, 2020, the evm published another press release in which they announced that all sensors, which are Cleverciti Sensors, have been installed for the intelligent parking guidance system in the making. The installation covers the Löhrstraße section from the Rizzastraße intersection to Bahnhofsplatz, as well as the Peter-Altmaier-Ufer parking lot. Based on the information gathered from the sensors, drivers will soon be able to see on the internet and on digital display boards how many parking spaces are still free.

By the end of the 2020 project year, traffic counters, air quality meters and a parking guidance system that digitally displays free parking spaces are to be installed. The benefits and effects of the projects will be measured over a period of three years. The projects are being implemented with the help of federal funding and the Thüga, the largest cooperative network of municipal energy and water service providers in Germany.

Libelium’s IoT Technology Installed at the Most Emblematic Hotel in Madrid

Libelium’s IoT Technology Installed at the Most Emblematic Hotel in Madrid

Libelium’s IoT parking technology is helping one of the biggest hotels in the center of Madrid to optimize the performance of its parking spaces. In its first year of activity, an average of 2,500 people a day have visited its 360° terrace-viewpoint. Placed on the 27th floor, its glass walkway at a height of more than 100 meters challenges the vertigo of the visitors. Since August 2019, its rooms have also welcomed 130,000 people, and now it’s one of the capital’s landmarks.

Located in a completely renovated, emblematic building, the hotel has almost 100 parking spaces across two floors. Due to its location in the nerve center of leisure, commerce, and business in Madrid, these facilities are available to both guests and outsiders.

The company responsible for the hotel surveillance services, Prosegur SIS Spain, chose Libelium IoT technology to provide a control system for hotel parking occupancy levels that allows real-time monitoring and occupation forecasting.

“Prosegur generates added value to the surveillance services through innovative technology”, says Antonio Enrique Salas, who leads the area of innovation, engineering, and support for special projects in Prosegur SIS Spain. In fact, this leading multinational security company has been developing innovative surveillance services with IoT technology.

The real challenge of this smart parking project was to know in real-time the occupation of the hotel’s parking lots and guarantee the safety of the vehicles of both the guests and outsiders. This was achieved by the implementation of 100 Libelium parking nodes which send the data to the control panel via LoRaWAN communication protocol using two Multitech gateways, one for each garage floor.

Through a simple web interface, developed by Libelium’s partner Tap Consultoría, the occupation level is shown in real-time. This way, it is possible to assign free places according to the type of vehicle, selecting the specific place, and assigning the necessary days and hours to the end-user.

The main objective of the IoT platform is the management of the parking lots in the hotel and the users that utilize the spaces in different formats: temporary use, reserved spaces for special occasions, and assignment.

Then, the system contemplates two types of end-users: users with assigned spaces and temporary visitors.

  • In the first case, for the person who has a fixed place assigned to their vehicle, their space will always be marked as assigned (in orange). When the node detects the vehicle, it sends the information to the panel where a red sign marks the space.
  • In the second case, temporary users must be previously registered in the system to request the reservation and use of a space for a certain period of time. The parking lot manager must validate this request and, once it has been validated, the space is reserved on the parking for this period. If it is denied, the space will be available.

Since the control panel includes an analytical area, the manager can view the temporary occupation data and the use of the different clients, parking lots, zones, and spaces. It is also possible to collect information about the time of use.

The administration staff at the hotel reception assign the places to the users. In this way, the management of the parking lot is centralized, fulfilling one of the requirements of the project. This minimizes the infrastructure and improves usability.

“In cities like Madrid where the environmental impact of traffic is so high, putting private parking spaces at the service of citizens is a priority“, highlights Alicia Asín, Libelium’s CEO, praising the hotel initiative to obtain the maximum performance from its parking facilities.

APPYWAY SET TO TRANSFORM JOURNEYS FOR UK DRIVERS WITH THE LAUNCH OF NEW PARKING API

May 26, 2020

APPYWAY SET TO TRANSFORM JOURNEYS FOR UK DRIVERS WITH THE LAUNCH OF NEW PARKING API

  • Launch of Parking API will enable developers and UK fleets to slash the wasted miles spent looking for parking, saving them time and money.

  • Congestion cost the UK economy close to £7 billion in 2019 – enabling OEM’s, fleets, and drivers to drive straight to the parking spot they need can actively reduce congestion and emissions.

  • Harnessing the power of standardised and interoperable parking data is recognised as a key enabler of the UK government’s Future of Mobility: Urban Strategy.

  • With over 450 UK towns and cities included, AppyWay’s Parking API provides access to the largest, standardised dataset for on-street parking in the UK.

LONDON, UK – Tuesday 26th May 2020, AppyWay, the pioneering kerbside management and smart parking firm has today announced the launch of their new Parking API, set to transform how drivers and fleets find parking across the UK. The launch of the API follows an upgrade to the company’s data-driven platform and the successful mapping of parking restrictions for over 450 UK towns and cities, contributing to the creation of the UK’s largest, standardised kerbside restriction dataset.

AppyWay have created their new Parking API to simplify what is often the complicated last part of a driver’s journey. Time spent looking for parking presents a perennial problem for local authorities, as it continues to be a significant contributor to congestion and emissions in cities. Last year, UK drivers spent on average 149 hours stuck in congestion, costing the economy almost £7 billion, in addition to the negative impact on air quality. Parking costs people, businesses, cities and our economy, and according to AppyWay’s CEO and Founder, Dan Hubert,

“The underlying problem is parking information, or as we like to call it, kerbside intelligence. It is difficult for drivers, job schedulers and fleet operators to get easy access to the parking information they need, when they need it. Take for example a carpenter working for a facilities management company. They’re scheduled to work at a site and normally waste time and fuel driving around the location looking for a spot. They need to know if it’s free or legal to park, how much it might cost and more importantly, what is the maximum stay permitted because their job could take more than 2 hours. Our Parking API has been specially designed to be able to expose this level of insight, giving drivers something like a ‘parking sixth-sense’, helping them drive straight to the right space that suits their needs, quickly and safely.”

The award-winning company suggests the Parking API can be leveraged directly by businesses to deliver benefits for their own operations but also by software developers, who are solving problems for their customers and looking to add value across their product offerings. With high-definition coverage, AppyWay uses world-leading processes to aggregate, collect and refresh kerbside data, combining with it an advanced cost calculator engine so that developers can build tailored solutions to meet a wide variety of use cases.

Businesses that operate fleets incur significant operational costs and a myriad of fleet management solutions are available that address a range of cost lines. AppyWay sees the potential for the Parking API to be leveraged directly by such companies, or by their software partners, to increase route efficiency, reduce parking costs and minimise fines.

AppyWay’s Chief Product Officer, Stephen Jones explains:

“Our API can be exploited at different stages of the planning or driving journey. For example, schedulers can benefit from an integration into their job management software to solve the parking challenge before drivers embark on journeys to job locations. Or you could look at it from the side of automotive, with OEMs or Tier Ones for example. Our kerbside insights can be integrated directly into the in-car experience, with parking options presented on maps, enabling a dynamic, real-time solution for drivers. Ultimately, product teams want to be able to delight their customers/users. We’ve built our Parking API so they’ll be able to do just that.”

AppyWay’s Parking API is available for developers to build against, with a limited free trial available following a demonstration. Further details can be found at https://bit.ly/ParkingAPI.

Dan Hubert, “It’s an exciting time to be able to launch our re-tooled Parking API and enable developers to build positive solutions, particularly during such uncertain times. We see day by day the need for our cities and citizens to be able to adapt to the current circumstances. An increase in personal car use for work is likely in the short-term, but towns and cities can’t really afford to see a huge spike in congestion. We’re ready to help businesses create innovative solutions with our API, so we can all enjoy more accessible, less congested and safer places to live and work.”

Park Assist’s M4 Smart-Sensor System set to Transform Parking at Circa Resort & Casino’s Garage Mahal

May 22, 2020

Park Assist’s M4 Smart-Sensor System set to Transform Parking at Circa Resort & Casino’s Garage Mahal

LAS VEGAS, NV – – Park Assist® has been awarded the Parking Guidance System (PGS) contract for the Garage Mahal facility at Circa Resort & Casino. The new hotel and casino, currently under construction, is located on the famous Fremont Street Experience in downtown Las Vegas. It will have 777 guest rooms, five restaurants, a two level casino with the largest sports book in Las Vegas and a nine story parking garage dubbed the Garage Mahal, where Park Assist’s camera based M4 smart-sensor system will be installed.

With this new state-of-the-art facility underway, Circa Resort & Casino was eager to utilize the most advanced technology for all aspects of the project. Park Assist’s proprietary M4 camera based PGS was the ideal fit. The M4 system, designed to provide far more than just parking guidance, will ensure that all customers experience enhanced service and increased satisfaction from the start of their journey to the end, as they enter and exit the facility.

Along with Park Assist’s M4 technology, the Garage Mahal installation will also include several of Park Assist’s popular add-on software modules: Park Finder, Park Alerts, and Park Surveillance.

The camera based M4 smart-sensor system uses color-coded LED lights to guide drivers to vacant spaces. Prompted to change from red to green when spaces become available, these lights remove all uncertainty from the parking journey, reducing each customer’s search and park times. Upon returning to the garage, customers will be able to find their car just as quickly by utilizing Park Assist’s Find Your Car software add-on. This advanced vehicle locator feature uses license plate recognition (LPR) technology to pinpoint each customer’s car. Integrating with Circa’s PARCS system, guests simply enter all or part of their license plate number into a kiosk or mobile app and they are directed to their vehicle’s exact location within the facility.

Additionally, Park Assist’s Park Alerts and Park Surveillance software extensions provide an increased level of control and security in the garage. Using Park Alerts, parking management will be able to set and enforce automated rules and alerts – if any policies are violated they will be immediately notified so they can take the appropriate action. Park Assist’s Park Surveillance module brings an additional level of security by enabling the M4 sensors to capture streaming video of any movement in or around parking bays, helping parking management efficiently deter and quickly react to criminal behavior.

“Park Assist is very excited to partner with Circa Resort & Casino on our installation at Garage Mahal. Circa offers guests high-end services and amenities that will make it one of the most popular destinations in downtown Las Vegas – we are thrilled that Park Assist’s parking guidance technology will be leveraged to help ease stress, enhance the parking experience and increase ultimate customer satisfaction.”  Said Jeff Sparrow, Regional Account Manager.

Park Assist is working with GSL Electric to oversee the installation. Site work is already underway and the project is scheduled for completion by December 2020 for Circa Resort & Casino’s grand opening.

As part of the Mayor’s Transport Strategy, the Mayor of London has created a freight and servicing action plan to tackle the poor air quality, congestion and road traffic accidents that have increased as a result of urban migration and the rise of online shopping. With the Mayor’s action plan highlighting the unique challenges posed by freight and servicing, a freight focused innovation challenge (FreightLab) was created via The Mayor of London’s Civic Innovation Challenge.

The TFL London FreightLab is specifically targeted at improving the efficiency of freight and servicing across Greater London. AppyWay, among others, were tasked with pitching solutions to tackle the negative impacts on London’s route network and improving the operational efficiency of vital freight and servicing activity. Within the Mayor’s freight action plan, it outlines the need to protect London’s thriving economy, allowing continued growth, whilst also delivering its citizens a cleaner, safer, and more liveable and workable city.

AppyWay’s innovation, to be enabled through a consortium of FreightLab partners, is a real-time kerbside management and utilisation solution, for freight and service vehicles in Greater London. The integration of a digital parking and reservation layer within the existing freight and traffic management processes is a quick win for a safe, low emission and thriving London. By tackling these quick wins, we can support freight and servicing in their move to EV’s, and beyond, unlocking additional revenue as fleets look to optimise their operations.

The pilot of this innovation will demonstrate the administrative, environmental and commercial benefits of moving to a digitally managed and compliant kerbside.

AppyWay recognises freight as a key enabler for thriving towns and cities, and are proud to be partnering with TFL, Mayor of London, and the freight consortium partners on this project.

Watch this space as the project develops and the tangible benefits to freight and Greater London are realised through this pilot scheme.
