Colorado Parking About To Get Smarter with Spot Parking

Parking is about to get a whole lot easier for drivers in several Colorado cities after Australian-founded smart parking company, Spot Parking, wins the Colorado Smart City Alliance challenge and implements their smart parking solution.

Spot Parking CEO Elizabeth Zealand said it is refreshing to see Colorado cities welcoming opportunities for innovation and new technologies.

“Drivers – even locals – don’t know how to easily find the best place to park and that’s where our technology comes in,” said Ms. Zealand.

“Our technology interprets complex parking rules and regulations and presents the information in a user-friendly and easy-to-understand visual parking map, allowing drivers the opportunity to see where parking spots are available, when, and for how long,” she said.

“In a nutshell, drivers can be guided to the best parking spot suited for them – all via the map on their phone, before they leave for the day.”

Ms. Zealand said city parking and transportation directors also reap the benefits from the new technology.

“City parking directors can update important parking and transit information instantly to better communicate with drivers. And cities are getting insight into just how the curb is being used for better planning” she said.

The smart parking technology is currently being implemented in several areas across the state – Denver’s popular Cherry Creek shopping precinct, Arvada’s famous Olde Town district and in Colorado Springs’ Downtown and Old Colorado City areas.

Spot Parking is one of several international companies to establish their U.S. headquarters in Denver after completing the Global Denver Landing Pad hosted by the City & County of Denver’s Economic Development and Opportunity (DEDO) agency in partnership with the World Trade Center Denver (WTC).

“The Global Landing Pad confirmed my decision to choose Denver as our global headquarters. I have not seen a city where the government, business, academia and community are so consistent in their message and support to attract businesses,” said Ms. Zealand.

Spot Parking will also be taking part in this week’s Smart Cities Week 2022 in Denver, with their Director of Operations James Waddell leading a panel discussion about the importance of ‘Innovative Curb spaces’ in cities.

“If you’re not digitizing your city’s curbsides, you’re missing out on vital parking, mobility and transportation intelligence,” said Mr. Waddell.

“Cities like Denver, Arvada and Colorado Springs are revolutionizing the future of mobility for commuters, as now people can easily see when and where they can park thanks to Spot Parking’s technology. We are very excited to be a part of this,” he said.

Spot Parking was announced a recent winner of the Global Revive! Challenge by the Colorado Smart City Alliance, which sought innovative solutions to address active transportation issues for the cities of Colorado.

Gold for Startup Spot Parking in Colorado Smart Cities Challenge!

August 03, 2021

Gold for Startup in Colorado Smart Cities Challenge!

Spot Parking, are winners of a prestigious smart city challenge in Colorado.

Spot’s innovative smart city technology was selected to develop smart digital curbs for cities in Colorado to improve the urban mobility customer experience.

The competition, called the ‘Revive! Challenge’ was arranged by the Colorado Smart Cities Alliance. The alliance seeks to merge businesses, governments, and other organizations in Colorado to improve Coloradans’ quality of life. The state-wide organization exists to advance smart cities investments to propel Colorado’s civic innovation. The Alliance was formed in 2017 to stimulate the progression of smart communities across the United States.

The collaborations and proposals received from the Revive! Challenge expands upon the Alliance’s approach of using technology to create digital ecosystems that improve communities.

The Colorado Smart Cities Alliance Revive! Challenge received proposals from around the world, focused on finding innovative solutions to best recover from the effects of the pandemic.

Through the deployment of Spot’s innovative and advanced parking and mobility solutions, cities in the US will be able to maximize the use of the curb to better serve the needs of their communities.

“This continues Spot’s investment into the US and we are grateful to have worked with the Colorado Smart City Alliance on this innovative project,” said Spot CEO Elizabeth Zealand.

As a startup with operations in both the US and Australia, Spot were also winners of the Australian government’s Transport for NSW Global Parking Challenge, which gave them a strong smart city example for this challenge.

“Spot has offices in Denver and Los Angeles and this win adds to the already impressive list of clients, which include CampusParc at The Ohio State University” said Zealand.

Spot will now begin the collaboration to take cities in Colorado a step closer towards achieving a smart city model – empowering smarter, greener, and safer mobility and parking for Colorado.

Spot was recently represented at the Parking Industry Expo at the Gaylord in Dallas, where our GM Mark Frumar was pleased to get back to meeting in person with our industry partners:

“Being at PIE was a fantastic way to kick off business in face to face settings again, a big thank you to the Parking Today team!”

SAVING LA’S SMALL BUSINESSES: DIGITAL MAPPING STARTUP, SPOT, ANNOUNCES PARTNERSHIP WITH MALIBU CHAMBER OF COMMERCE TO SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESS DURING COVID-19

SAVING LA’S SMALL BUSINESSES: DIGITAL MAPPING STARTUP, SPOT,

ANNOUNCES PARTNERSHIP WITH MALIBU CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

TO SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESS DURING COVID-19

The Los Angeles-Based Company Spearheads a Solution to Aid Regional Businesses

During Lockdown and in the Transition to Recovery

Los Angeles, CA  – As businesses redefine their operations to survive, Los Angeles-based digital mapping startup, Spot, has partnered with the Malibu Chamber of Commerce in creating ShopMalibu, an interactive map to help local businesses during the pandemic. The company has evolved their existing curbside mapping and visualization technology to offer a free, hyperlocal channel for businesses to promote their updated services both during, and out of COVID-19.

“Spot is very proud to partner with the Malibu Chamber of Commerce, who have exemplified the support a chamber should provide to their regional businesses,” states Spot’s co-founder and CEO Elizabeth Zealand, “This is a perfect example of how cities and communities can come together to support the local economy during the global pandemic.“

Founded in 2015, Spot’s core business is to digitally optimize parking management and improve mobility for cities and major universities, including the recent launch at The Ohio State University. While the current stay-at-home orders have changed how consumers are socializing, Spot has repurposed to help businesses and consumers to connect via Spot’s proprietary technology.

Users simply view the interactive map to see how validated businesses are operating day-to-day. Spot outlines details on reopening conditions, daily updates and exclusive offers – and will shortly list if businesses have passed COVID-19 certification – something competing smartphone maps are not offering. Simultaneously, local businesses can directly update their details, such as if they are offering outdoor dining, putting them in the driver’s seat as conditions rapidly change.

Spot ensures that customers can stay informed regarding where, when and how to access services and makes this information available without having to use delivery or other third-party solutions that eat into the small margins of local businesses.

“The Malibu Chamber of Commerce is grateful to have partnered with Spot who developed the ShopMalibu Map,” stated Malibu Chamber of Commerce CEO and President, Barbara Bruderlin. “The map is beautifully designed and, in addition to showing the new hours, dining set ups and COVID-19 safety practices, it even shows users trailheads, beaches, tasting rooms and vineyards! This is such a needed boost for Malibu’s small businesses, who have gone through so much over the past two years.”

Beyond Lockdown

As the world begins its return to normalcy, the need for this service will extend to the transition and recovery phases. At this point in time, it’s not clear how the US government will navigate the staged easing of restrictions beyond lockdown and how this will impact different types of retailers.

With state governments currently responsible for their own rollout plans, Spot anticipates the ongoing need for businesses to require this kind of support. The world may never return to the way it was and flexible solutions will be key during this revolutionary time.

“As industries struggle in ways we never could have imagined, this is the time for companies to innovate and play their part in supporting the local economy and providing clear, real time answers to ensure citizens have safe access to services,” says Spot’s General Manager Mark Frumar. “Within just days, we were able to repurpose our existing mapping technology to deploy an entirely new solution that will continue to be of aid as we transition out of COVID-19.”
