Mayor Young Applauds New Partnership Between the Parking Authority of Baltimore City and SpotAngels

The “Waze for Parking” App Helps Users Find Parking

BALTIMORE, MD.  — Finding a parking spot in Baltimore City just got a little easier. The Parking Authority of Baltimore City (PABC) announces its partnership with SpotAngels, the first free, community-based parking app that helps drivers identify parking that meets their needs, avoiding future parking citations.

“I applaud the Parking Authority of Baltimore City for looking at new and innovative ways to address old struggles for drivers in Baltimore City,” said Mayor Bernard C. “Jack” Young. “This new partnership with SpotAngels will bring relief to residents and visitors alike as they travel across and around our city. I will always support innovative ideas and partnerships that benefit the residents of Baltimore, especially when those ideas aim to save our residents time and money.”

By downloading the SpotAngels app, parkers can search for parking near their destination, and compare prices, duration limits and parking restrictions. Armed with this information, drivers can avoid parking in tow-away zones, or streets with street cleaning or residential permit restrictions.

The goal of this partnership is to ease the parking headaches for both residents and visitors looking to enjoy the city. Over the past year, the app has provided 1.9 million drivers with information they used to make smart parking decisions.

How it Works

SpotAngels, called the “Waze of Parking” by Google, displays both on-street and off-street parking information on a map, showing drivers where to find cheap parking for the length of time they need. The app also shows all the rules such as loading zones, no parking and all other restrictions, helping parkers comply with the rules and avoid tickets. It also shows the hours of operation and hourly rate at parking meters, parking lots and garages.

A crowd-sourced app, all the parking information on SpotAngels can be easily updated by users directly on the app. The more data, the easier it is for everyone to find parking. PABC provided SpotAngels with data on parking meters, on-street parking restrictions and City-owned garages.

When a user leaves a parking spot, the app displays the available parking space to the rest of the community. These parking patterns collected from the community are then used to make recommendations on where you’re likely to find an open parking spot.

How SpotAngels is Different

The uniqueness of SpotAngels is not only in the fact that it’s the first to display all the parking information in a City but also because it is crowdsourced. It is the first app in the industry to create a voice for the parkers to help make their own parking experience better.

“It is thrilling to be partnering with an organization like the Parking Authority of Baltimore City,” says SpotAngels Vice President Maxwell Mickey, “Between visitors and residents, Baltimore hosts close to 30+ Million people a year. That is a lot of people and a lot of cars! We are looking forward to helping them quickly navigate the City.”

 About SpotAngels

SpotAngels has previously established its community of drivers in 35+ cities including several metros nationwide such as San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, San Diego, New York City, Boston, Chicago, Seattle, Washington D.C., Philadelphia. In 2018, the app was featured by Apple and Google as “Waze for Parking” among the best apps. The company is backed by the co-founder of Google Maps, Lars Rasmussen among other Silicon Valley investors. SpotAngels is available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store and is free to download and use.

In addition to showing citizens and visitors all the parking information, the City of Virginia Beach has agreed to enable SpotAngels as an additional option to pay the meter – in a move that makes it one of the first cities in the nation to open meter payment to multiple vendors. The goal for the City is two-fold: 1/ provide more choices to citizens and thus increase competition, innovation and ultimately customer service and ease of compliance; 2/ increase mobile payment penetration in the City which will help save the city cash collection costs. This feature will be live in the SpotAngels app as soon as the meters are up and running again in the spring, since they are free of charge during the winter.

“Waze for Parking” app SpotAngels launches in LA with support from its local community

“Waze for Parking” app SpotAngels launches in LA

with support from its local community

SpotAngels – the “Waze for Parking” – a community-based parking app that helps drivers find parking and avoid tickets, announces today its launch in Los Angeles on the heels of a recent round of funding led by co-founder of Google Maps, Lars Rasmussen.

SpotAngels has previously established its community of drivers in the San Francisco Bay Area and Greater New York City saving them over $7.5m on street cleaning tickets as well as time and money finding parking. In San Francisco, 1% of the city’s drivers now actively use SpotAngels.

Unlike other apps like SpotHero that just show parking garages, SpotAngels shows street parking as well as provides you with alerts on parking rules so you never get a ticket.

“Our community of drivers has been asking us to expand to other cities where they travel to and where they have friends and family who struggle with finding parking and avoiding street cleaning tickets. Los Angeles is THE car city and although we can’t help with the traffic, we can help reduce the hours it takes to find a spot,” says Aboud Jardaneh, co-founder of SpotAngels.

SpotAngels displays a crowdsourced map showing the location of all street parking spots and garages, with detailed rules and prices kept up-to-date by the active community. It includes local specificities such as LA’s residential parking permits enabling to park for free. The map helps drivers find free and cheap parking, fast.

SpotAngels also makes sure that drivers never get a parking ticket. The app runs in the background and knows where and when you park your car and you leave a spot. It sends reminders when it’s time to move their car for street cleaning or any other parking rule.

After leaving a spot, the map displays an open spot in the form of a yellow bubble to help other drivers of the community find a spot.

The uniqueness of SpotAngels is that the all the parking information is crowdsourced.

“Our local community in LA helped build the map you currently see.” says Jardaneh.

Anyone can add or edit a parking spot on the map by sending a picture of parking signs through the app. For avid map contributors, they can join the SpotAngels Map Makers community (by reaching out to support@spotangels.com) and will be given access to an editor tool on the web that will enable them to map full neighborhoods.

SpotAngels is available on the App Store and Play Store and was previously featured by Apple and Google as “Waze for Parking” among the best apps of 2017 and 2018. The company is backed by the co-founder of Google Maps, the former Head of Google Street View and prominent investors from Silicon Valley.
