Texas A&M Transportation Wins Communication Award
Texas A&M Transportation Wins Communication Award
COLLEGE STATION, June 27, 2017— Texas A&M Transportation Services was awarded the Parking Matters® Marketing and Communications award ‘Best of 2017’ for outstanding educational outreach, marketing and communications during work on the nation’s first unsignalized Dutch Junction project on campus, which included glow-in-the-dark bike lanes in 2016 (First In U.S. Dutch-Style Unsignalized Intersection Installed at TAMU.”) The International Parking Institute (IPI) presented the award at the recent 2017 IPI Conference & Expo held in New Orleans, La.
“We are so pleased to have received this level of recognition from the industry during very exciting times for Texas A&M,” said Associate Vice President Peter Lange, Transportation Services. “In conjunction with our educational outreach campaign, we partnered with Texas A&M Transportation Institute (TTI) to share with the world information about the many innovative and transformative projects taking place at Texas A&M. We look forward to working together with TTI to continue to tell our stories.”
The Parking Matters® Marketing and Communications awards program is designed to recognize outstanding parking related marketing, public relations, and communications programs and campaigns. Eligible programs use a wide spectrum of marketing tools, from advertising and public relations to collateral development, signage, special events, direct mail, video, and social media.
The Texas A&M Transportation Services team underwent a far-reaching campaign to promote the introduction and proper use of the Dutch-style junction and green bike pathways. This effort, combined with simultaneous marketing efforts by TTI resulted in national and international media coverage and unprecedented social media activity in the history of Texas A&M. In addition, the press release on the project was the most read story of the year in Texas A&M Today.
“Implementing and evaluating this technology was a team effort involving researchers, transportation operators, communications experts and Texas A&M students,” noted Bob Brydia, TTI Senior Research Scientist. “We appreciate Transportation Services leading the effort to spread the word about this innovative application.”
