TAPCO Launches Extension to LegendViz Product Line

The New Signs are MUTCD-compliant and Larger in Size for Improved Sign Legibility Distance

BROWN DEER, Wis., July 26, 2023  — Traffic and Parking Control Co., Inc. (TAPCO), manufacturer, distributor and service provider of roadway safety innovations is excited to announce the launch of a LegendViz® line extension.

The new additions to the LegendViz® line are the 36-inch-by-36-inch Stop and 48-inch-by-48-inch Do Not Enter signs. The new sizes are MUTCD-compliant and suitable for use on multi-lane roads, expressways and in states where oversized sign applications are desired. LegendViz® technology can also be applied to private roadways.

TAPCO LegendViz® DO NOT ENTER sign, 30" and 48", illuminated legend at night

Initially launched in 2021, the LegendViz® line was driven by customer feedback requesting traffic signs that motorists could see without headlights. Ever since, the innovative, LED-illuminated design has quickly become a popular addition to TAPCO’s range of traffic sign offerings. The latest extension is designed to address the growing need for larger-sized traffic signs that are highly visible regardless of factors such as speed or traffic volume.

“We are excited to expand our product line to align with state standards and regulations nationwide,” said Amanda Schulz, TAPCO’s Director of Sales. “By providing larger signs that comply with Federal and State MUTCD standards, we are meeting the demands of our customers and continuing to increase safer roadways for all.”

The new 36-inch-by-36-inch Stop and 48-inch-by-48-inch Do Not Enter signs are now available to purchase. As with all LegendViz® signs, the new sizes are designed for simple, single-person installation and offer the flexibility of AC or solar power options.

Hawa Dawa’s AI-based Air Quality Monitoring Solution Successfully Competes with Traditional Methods

Revolutionizing Environmental Monitoring through Cutting-Edge Technology and Innovative Approaches

Munich, February 2023: OpenAI’s ChatGPT has made artificial intelligence more accessible to the public, enabling people to witness the capabilities of AI in their daily lives. Recognizing the potential of AI in environmental monitoring, Hawa Dawa has integrated AI into the core of its air monitoring method from the very beginning. The Hawa Dawa solution leverages the advantages of AI, including increased efficiency, improved accuracy, and better decision-making, to provide a comprehensive and accurate picture of the environment.

Hawa Dawa’s innovative approach to environmental monitoring has resulted in significant cost savings, full scalability, and continuous improvements to the product. TÜV Süd and multiple direct comparisons with alternative solutions confirmed the reliability and accuracy of Hawa Dawa’s method.

Hawa Dawa’s Sentience System recently faced a critical challenge when it won a tender in one of Europe’s largest capitals. The solution was benchmarked against competitive hardware products from two traditional hardware manufacturers, comparing Hawa Dawa’s AI-based solution with air quality monitoring relying on pure hardware. Despite the constraints of the evaluation, which did not allow further training of the AI after deployment and the loss of the training station in Munich, Hawa Dawa’s solution outperformed the competitors in two of three accuracy-related categories.

The conclusion of the evaluation is clear: AI-based air quality monitoring can replace traditional, costly, and bulky hardware-centric measurement methods without compromising accuracy. The robust AI developed by Hawa Dawa delivered acceptable results even under unfavourable conditions and has the potential to provide even higher accuracy levels with full leverage of the AI-based models and continuous improvements through machine learning. The results of this comparison are available upon request.

“At Hawa Dawa, we believe in the power of AI to revolutionize the way we monitor air quality,” says Karim Tarraf, CEO and Co-Founder of Hawa Dawa. “Our recent evaluation against two traditional hardware manufacturers, even under challenging conditions where we were unable to further train our AI algorithms or calibrate our devices, confirms that our AI-based solution can deliver robust and accurate results that rival traditional methods.”

Hawa Dawa is proud to revolutionize the field of environmental monitoring through its cutting-edge technology and innovative approaches. To learn more about Hawa Dawa’s solution, please contact  sales@hawadawa.com.

“Waste no more time arguing about what a good man should be. Be one.”  – Marcus Aurelius.

Sometimes, I read an article that makes my jaw drop in amazement. Not in wonder nor in awe, but simply in disbelief about our human nature.  I do have an expressive face and my jaw has dropped often, especially in these last two years.  In this case, I have read an article in this Sunday LA Times titled “Rich Town Wants a Big Cat as a Buffer”. LA Times online, has it under the title as posted on ParkNews.biz: Feb 7, 2022 – Wealthy town has an answer against building affordable housing: Mountain lions

“Last week, officials in the enclave of 5,500 people announced that all of Woodside was exempt from a new state housing law that allows for duplex development on single-family home lots. The reason? The entire town is habitat for potentially endangered mountain lions. …”

“The new state law, Senate Bill 9, generally allows property owners of single-family parcels to build duplexes and, in some cases, fourplexes on their land. But lawmakers gave local governments discretion to add parking requirements or size limitations, among other restrictions.” …

“We love animals,” Woodside Mayor Dick Brown told The Almanac local newspaper, which first reported the town’s decision. “Every house that’s built is one more acre taken away from [mountain lions’] habitat. Where are they going to go? Pretty soon we’ll have nothing but asphalt and no animals or birds.” … Read more if you want your jaw to reach the floor.

After I picked my jaw off the floor, I thought oh well, it is a Year of a Tiger after all.  So along with the cat theme, mountain lion preservation works better than any sort of parking requirements or restrictions, or honesty.  Apropos of the new Chinese Year: Do LA Rams even have a chance when they go against those ferocious Cats, Cincinnati Bengals? And there is no Chinese Zodiac sign for a sheep except in the mirror.  Either way, if you are attending the Super Bowl it looks like parking will be costly. Check it out here: Feb 4, 2022 – Super Bowl Parking Plentiful, But It’ll Cost You Big Bucks

Yes, ladies and gents, the world is upside down.  Nevertheless, on the upside, we have our PIE 2022 in Reno, NV.  Marcy Sparrow is a visionary to have picked up this gem of small American town, as a location for our conference and expo.  Thank you Marcy!

Reno is simply beautiful!  And considering that all of us are dealing with inflation, high prices, post lockdown challenges and so on, in Reno, your buck goes much further than in other cities.

Our conference is at the most hospitable Grand Sierra Resort.  This hotel has everything, such as great restaurants, bars, a movie theater, a casino, an ax throwing ring, a spa, a night club with a pool, a bowling alley and more.  The best part, the newly remodeled and cozy rooms are around $96.  I stayed in one and enjoyed it immensely.

Once again this year, we are excited about our annual Parking Today Awards.  This awards’  lunch, is going to celebrate not only your accomplishments but also emphasize laughter, magic and fun.  We have a special guest MC who will keep your jaw dropping from belly laughs.

Tattile provides advanced vehicle tracking in Turkey

March 31, 2021

Tattile provides advanced vehicle tracking in Turkey

The Turkish governmental forces invested in technological systems to grant the everyday life citizens’ protection and to facilitate the resolution of criminal acts. For this purpose, Tattile, together with the great experience and certified knowledge of its trusted local partner, provided an advanced vehicle tracking network all over the country, using its sophisticated ANPR cameras.

Several hundred Vega Smart 2HD ANPR cameras double head family have been installed aiming to prevent crime offences. The embedded ANPR software of the traffic monitoring camera read the license plates of all vehicles passing in front of the device.

The on-board intelligence also enables to recognize vehicle features regardless of the plate number: the traffic monitoring cameras are equipped with an embedded BCC software to allow comparison between the license plate and the brand, colour, class of the vehicle. This enables the public security forces to verify if the collected data (licence plate and vehicles features) matches those registered on the provincial police archives. This feature is very useful to identify vehicles which license plate has been replaced with another one.

All Traffic Solutions Debuts Give Back Program to Donate Message Signs for Police Departments to Create Safer Communities

The leader in traffic safety becomes the go-to tech for public safety communications during COVID-19

HERNDON, Va.—-All Traffic Solutions (ATS), a leader in traffic safety and data analytics for Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) and smart parking applications, today launched the ATS Gives Back program to expand its support during COVID-19 to create safer communities. Smaller police departments that do not qualify for grant funding can apply to ATS for a chance to receive either a free radar or message sign. Two radar/message signs will be donated each month for the next 12 months to support the growing challenges facing local police departments.

“We have been donating free signs and support for years, especially during natural disasters, but we are taking it up a notch during this global crisis with this new program that is formalizing what we were already doing,” said Andy Souders, CEO of ATS. “We are always looking for new ways to collaborate with our law enforcement partners and give back to those in need right now. This program will bridge the gap between stretched police budgets and limited grant funding.”

The pandemic has spurred an increase in demand for message boards that share public information as cities are looking for ways to communicate with the public about best practices to flatten the curve. ATS has quickly responded by supporting local city officials and law enforcement with new signage, which provide emergency updates, COVID testing sites messages, park closures and hazard alerts. Communities can promote coronavirus safety measures broadly and safely. ATS’ solutions have grown to more than 5,000 municipalities and law enforcement programs in all 50 states.

“As a public safety provider, communication is a key component of our everyday operation,” said Sheriff Jay Jones of Lee County Sheriff in Alabama. “The InstAlert24 Message sign has enhanced our ability to provide information to our citizens at high visibility locations and at incident-specific scenes. We believe it has given us an additional component to work toward the goal of providing for the safety of our community.”

ATS continues to be focused on road safety in addition to public safety messaging. The company recently provided a report showing the effectiveness of radar message signs in keeping speeds in check, resulting in safer neighborhoods during COVID. Leveraging data from TraffiCloud, ATS conducted an extensive analysis of a handful of communities and found that an overwhelming majority are still responding to digital signs that show a driver’s speed. The report shows that average speeds have decreased along with the decrease in traffic volumes.

Local police departments can get more information on the program at: https://www.alltrafficsolutions.com/atsgivesback/

Tattile: First ITS highway system in Serbia

June 15, 2020

Tattile: First ITS highway system in Serbia

In 2019 the Republic of Serbia put the first highway ITS system into operation covering about 200 highway kilometres on the Belgrade – Nis highway in central Serbia. The system of traffic surveillance smart cameras is aimed to improve control and surveillance of highway traffic, reduce accidents with casualties and material losses, and generally improve highway user safety. Additional responsibilities of the ITS system are to detect and sanction oversized vehicles as well as average speed control.

Along the highway, the ITS system has 28 gantry spots with in total 56 installed Tattile Vega Smart 2 HD traffic monitoring cameras – 14 spots from each direction and 2 cameras for every spot. Another part of the entire system is six variable message signs (VMS) which are installed on gantries above all three lanes of the highway and display information from the traffic monitoring cameras about the traffic situation on the highway and at the toll stations ahead.

The system is embedded into a larger project which includes a tolling system on the highway exits. Data generated by the Tattile smart traffic cameras along the highway is shared with the tolling stations. One of them, Plaza Smederevo is already equipped with a Weigh in Motion (WIM) system where measuring of gross and axle weights of vehicles is done without stopping and thus with a minimum influence on traffic flow to maintain a free flow tolling system. The WIM systems are installed on a lane at the Tolling plazas making use of already existent toll equipment, like optical curtains and ANPR (ALPR) cameras, and to potentially be used in future for tolling by weight.

The system operator plans to constantly expand the ITS system across the entire Serbian highway network; and to further improve the system capabilities by adding functionalities such as automatic incident detection algorithms, automatic number plate recognition as well as brand color and class recognition; functions which can be executed by the already installed Tattile Vega Smart 2HD cameras.

Bentonville Street Department chooses web-based data solution from All Traffic Solutions

March 16, 2020

Bentonville Street Department chooses web-based data solution from All Traffic Solutions

HERNDON, VA – MARCH 16, 2020 – In Arkansas, the Bentonville Street Department is using TraffiCloud from All Traffic Solutions (ATS) to determine how to solve current road safety challenges and plan for the future.

The implementation of technology from the Herndon, VA-based traffic safety and data analytics leader is enabling better-informed decision making and optimized allocation of budgets and other resources to handle traffic-related community issues. A significant development is that TraffiCloud will also provide data that will be used to measure and plan road capacity needs in line with future economic expansion.

The Street Department, together with the Traffic Safety & Signage Committee, handles the majority of community speeding complaints within its locality. Responses have to meet an agreed set of criteria and between them the Department and the Committee were looking for a way to ascertain whether complaints are valid and their responses appropriate.

“Before TraffiCloud, our traffic-calming measures were complaint-driven but you’ll always have a certain percentage of speed violators. The challenge was how to assess each situation and put it in context with overall traffic volumes — in some instances, the perceptions of the safety risk can be rather different from the reality. We also needed to be able to gauge how to deploy limited resources to best address any problems,” explains Tony Davis, Street Manager with the Bentonville Street Department and a member of the Traffic Safety & Signage Committee.

TraffiCloud provides accurate, dependable real-time insights by bringing together information from a wide range of sources. It is a web-based data management solution and its open-standards approach enables it to work with sensors and systems from ATS as well as other manufacturers.

Used in combination with ATS’ StatTrak portable vehicle counter classifiers, TraffiCloud is currently enabling the Bentonville Street Department to ascertain its true needs in terms of safety interventions and mitigations — where a legitimate speeding problem is identified, a remotely controlled ATS Shield radar speed sign is deployed as a traffic-calming measure.

TraffiCloud enables wide-area traffic management at minimal cost. It enables both permanent and temporary devices to be networked and so work cohesively rather than piecemeal — for instance, the Bentonville Street Department is also using ATS Shield radar speed signs to govern speeds on diversion routes necessitated by work zones.
The solution is employed by both the Street Department and local law enforcement. This means that TraffiCloud provides a wealth of high-quality data on traffic movements and drivers’ habits and, in the future, it will be employed to help re-work the local Master Street Plan. This will enable Davis and his colleagues to determine how to manage traffic capacity in line with economic development. In particular, it will help to build a picture of what’s going on and what’s needed away from main arterial routes.

The key reasons for the Bentonville Street Department choosing TraffiCloud are its versatility and connectivity, says Andy Souders, CEO of ATS.

“The Cloud means that devices can be accessed from pretty much anywhere. Data can be retrieved and operating parameters changed without having to visit the roadside.

“Remote operation frees up resources and is more cost-effective. It provides a further safety benefit because you’re not unnecessarily placing operatives next to live traffic lanes, and it speeds the collection of information for many different kinds of applications.”
Information about TraffiCloud, StatTrak and other ATS products and solutions can be found on the company’s website.
