POGOH BIKESHARE REACHES HISTORICAL RIDERSHIP RECORDS IN 2023

POGOH BIKESHARE REACHES HISTORICAL RIDERSHIP RECORDS IN 2023

STATION EXPANSION, E-ASSIST BIKES, UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH PARTNERSHIP CONTRIBUTE TO MAJOR GROWTH

PITTSBURGH, PA — Bike Share Pittsburgh (POGOH) is celebrating a year of record high ridership in 2023 withover 200,000 trips since January 1. This year’s ridership numbers squash the previous record set in 2021 of 124,211 rides, which was also the peak of the former Healthy Ride system’s network of 115 stations. POGOHexpanded by 22 stations in June of 2023, and currently operates 60 stations and 600 bikes across the City of Pittsburgh. More than half of its bike fleet are electric-assist bikes.

“Part of what I love about Pittsburgh’s unique charm is in its steep slopes, terraced business districts, andchallenging hills,” said David White, executive director at POGOH. “After introducing electric-assist bicycles last year, it’s been a thrill to see so many Pittsburgh residents, students, and visitors bounce from neighborhood to neighborhood taking on the hilliest short bike trips on our POGOH e-bikes. By strengthening our partnerships with Highmark and Allegheny Health Network, Duquesne Light, and the City of Pittsburgh, we’veinstalled 20 electric charging stations throughout the city. Watching new riders jump on a POGOH, confident that a fully charged e-assist bike awaits them at the next station, reinforces our conviction in a moresustainable, less congested, and fun, mobility future.”

Furthermore, the University of Pittsburgh community is riding at unprecedented rates. A partnership between the University of Pittsburgh and POGOH makes all trips under 30 minutes free for all students, staff, and faculty. The partnership launched in 2019 and has grown year over year. In 2023, Pitt riders contributed to more than 110,000 rides.

The University of Pittsburgh partnership is significantly changing the ridership patterns of the POGOH network. The frequency that the University of Pittsburgh community is riding has revealed new top ridership stations in Oakland, Southside, and Shadyside. Previously, top stations were often located Downtown, NorthShore, and South Side Works.

Top 2023 POGOH stations:

  1. S Bouquet Ave & Sennott St
  2. Boulevard of the Allies & Parkview Ave
  3. Forbes Ave & Schenley Dr
  4. O’Hara St & University Place
  5. N Dithridge St & Centre Ave
  6. Zulema St & Coltart St
  7. S 27th St & Sidney St
  8. Atwood St & Bates St
  9. Schenley Dr & Schenley Dr Ext
  10. Ivy St & Walnut St

“Pitt’s students, faculty, and staff have really embraced bike ridership within the Oakland, Southside, andShadyside areas, which is a testament to our commitment to a cleaner, healthier future,” said Jonathan Pearson, director of Parking and Transportation at the University of Pittsburgh. “With our record ridership this year, we are proud to provide accessible and

eco-friendly transportation options that contribute to a more sustainable urban environment.” For a deeper look at POGOH’s ridership data, visit: https://pogoh.com/data/

Not “NIMBY” – PIE 2022 and ParkNews.biz Feb 1st– 7th, 2022

“Waste no more time arguing about what a good man should be. Be one.”  – Marcus Aurelius.

Sometimes, I read an article that makes my jaw drop in amazement. Not in wonder nor in awe, but simply in disbelief about our human nature.  I do have an expressive face and my jaw has dropped often, especially in these last two years.  In this case, I have read an article in this Sunday LA Times titled “Rich Town Wants a Big Cat as a Buffer”. LA Times online, has it under the title as posted on ParkNews.biz: Feb 7, 2022 – Wealthy town has an answer against building affordable housing: Mountain lions

“Last week, officials in the enclave of 5,500 people announced that all of Woodside was exempt from a new state housing law that allows for duplex development on single-family home lots. The reason? The entire town is habitat for potentially endangered mountain lions. …”

“The new state law, Senate Bill 9, generally allows property owners of single-family parcels to build duplexes and, in some cases, fourplexes on their land. But lawmakers gave local governments discretion to add parking requirements or size limitations, among other restrictions.” …

“We love animals,” Woodside Mayor Dick Brown told The Almanac local newspaper, which first reported the town’s decision. “Every house that’s built is one more acre taken away from [mountain lions’] habitat. Where are they going to go? Pretty soon we’ll have nothing but asphalt and no animals or birds.” … Read more if you want your jaw to reach the floor.

After I picked my jaw off the floor, I thought oh well, it is a Year of a Tiger after all.  So along with the cat theme, mountain lion preservation works better than any sort of parking requirements or restrictions, or honesty.  Apropos of the new Chinese Year: Do LA Rams even have a chance when they go against those ferocious Cats, Cincinnati Bengals? And there is no Chinese Zodiac sign for a sheep except in the mirror.  Either way, if you are attending the Super Bowl it looks like parking will be costly. Check it out here: Feb 4, 2022 – Super Bowl Parking Plentiful, But It’ll Cost You Big Bucks

Yes, ladies and gents, the world is upside down.  Nevertheless, on the upside, we have our PIE 2022 in Reno, NV.  Marcy Sparrow is a visionary to have picked up this gem of small American town, as a location for our conference and expo.  Thank you Marcy!

Reno is simply beautiful!  And considering that all of us are dealing with inflation, high prices, post lockdown challenges and so on, in Reno, your buck goes much further than in other cities.

Our conference is at the most hospitable Grand Sierra Resort.  This hotel has everything, such as great restaurants, bars, a movie theater, a casino, an ax throwing ring, a spa, a night club with a pool, a bowling alley and more.  The best part, the newly remodeled and cozy rooms are around $96.  I stayed in one and enjoyed it immensely.

Once again this year, we are excited about our annual Parking Today Awards.  This awards’  lunch, is going to celebrate not only your accomplishments but also emphasize laughter, magic and fun.  We have a special guest MC who will keep your jaw dropping from belly laughs.

Because it is Reno, and because we want every company in YIMBY, that is our Parking Industry, to Thrive and become stronger than ever, we have special offers on our Awards’ Sponsorships.  Through the Sponsorship, you can showcase your organization and tell your story.  And you can help to celebrate your peers and colleagues.

Please reach out to Marcy Sparrow at marcy@parkingtoday.com  to secure your sponsorship.  This deal from Reno might not be available ever again.  And these opportunities will sell out fast!

I can’t wait to see you in this awesome little town in May for PIE 2022.  And I am sure you will be in amazement.  Not on account of the insanity of this world, but because the joy, the wonder and the success you will find at our conference.

Thank you.

Have a blessed week.

NEW YORK, Jan. 18, 2022  — Nuvocargo, the only all-in-one digital platform for US/Mexico trade, announced today that Lauren Burdick has joined the company as Head of People.

In this new role at Nuvocargo, Burdick will leverage her 10+ years experience leading operational teams and projects in the US and in Mexico to manage the company’s employee experience and ensure that it is closely aligned with its vision, mission and values. She will define and execute the strategy behind Nuvocargo’s employee value proposition and compensation philosophy and ensure process excellence in talent acquisition, people operations, and learning and development.

Burdick joins Nuvocargo from the $8.7B LatAm startup Kavak, where she led the Central Mexico region as General Manager and later the company’s Latin America customer service teams. Prior to that, Burdick was with Uber, where she helped scale the Uber Mexico customer service team to 500 and also served as Chief of Staff and Head of Corporate Strategy for Uber Eats LatAm. Burdick was a US-Mexico Fulbright binational business scholar and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Comparative Race Studies from the University of Chicago.

Tattile contributes smart camera technology to Weight in Motion System on new Genova Bridge

Tattile contributes smart camera technology to Weight in Motion System on new Genova Bridge

The collapse of the Morandi Bridge in Genova as a major Italian strategic transport line on 14 August 2018 which caused 43 victims will remain in the memory of the Italian people. As such, it can be taken as a symbol for the strength of the Italian nation that in less than two years after the disaster the newly constructed viaduct was inaugurated in Genova on 3 August 2020. Despite the extremely ambitious construction period one lesson learned from the catastrophe was to massively invest in the static surveillance of the new infrastructure. The old viaduct was already equipped with basic motion sensors under the road deck which detected movement of the deck. However, these sensors were not able to trace back the causes of the movements.

As a consequence, the constructors of the newly erected San Giorgio Bridge in Genova decided to install a much more comprehensive system of structural monitoring which provides a constant and complete picture on what happens on and with the infrastructure. The entire structural monitoring system now includes not only sensors under the platform to detect movements. In addition, four Tattile Vega Basic cameras are mounted above the bridge to monitor the traffic flow and detect license plates. These Tattile cameras are connected to a Weight in Motion System designed by iWIM which detects and records the weight of the axles and the gross weight of the vehicles as they pass over a sensor integrated in durable steel plates installed on the road surface of the viaduct. All the data generated from the sensors and cameras is sent to a central server enabling a clear picture of what happens on the bridge at any time. By integrating Weigh in Motion technology with the combination of Tattile Vega Basic cameras on the new San Giorgio it is now possible to correlate structural deformations to the weight that weighs on the infrastructure; and to trace the weight load caused by individual vehicles crossing it. As such the combination of sensors and smart cameras acts as an early warning system and facilitates management and planning of interventions in the stability of the infrastructure as well as preserving investments such as repaving the asphalt.

Complete Coach Works provides Cost-Effective Solution to Newly Adopted California Mandate for Mass Transit Agencies to go Electric

February 19, 2019

Complete Coach Works provides Cost-Effective Solution to Newly Adopted California Mandate for Mass Transit Agencies to go Electric

Recently, Complete Coach Works (CCW) announced it was awarded a contract by Montebello Bus Lines (MBL) for the electrification and rehabilitation of three New Flyer buses.

MBL’s decision to remove the now defunct ISE gas hybrid system and convert to Zero Emission Propulsion System (ZEPS) buses was a positive step toward its goal of improving the quality of public transportation for its residents and surrounding communities.

Developed exclusively by CCW, ZEPS is an integrated technology that provides customers an affordable route to eco-friendly transportation. CCW takes previously used, internal combustion engine buses and remanufactures them into like-new vehicles containing ZEPS all-electric drivetrain systems. The remanufactured ZEPS buses are rebuilt with lightweight flooring, lightweight seats, lightweight windows, and energy-efficient heating and cooling. It can integrate with any fleet and provide a viable alternative to fossil fuels meeting the needs of our clients’ green initiatives.

The process of remanufacturing will improve the service life of the bus and reduce material waste, resulting in operational savings that benefit the environment. These buses will help America in its continued leadership in clean energy and also places MBL well on its way to complying with the new regulation that will be put into effect in the near future.

According to an article published in the New York Times, California has become the first state to mandate a full shift to electric buses on public transit routes. Starting in 2023, a quarter of agencies’ acquired buses must be electric, and by 2026 that requirement will rise to half of all acquired buses. By 2029, mass transit agencies in California will only be allowed to buy buses that are fully electric under a rule adopted by the state’s powerful clean air agency.

Complete Coach Works (CCW) is the largest U.S. bus remanufacturing and rehabilitation company and the leading provider of a vast array of transportation solutions with over 30 years of dedicated service in the transportation industry. CCW is a pioneer in the business and strives to continually provide cleaner air through innovative design and engineering, resulting in the world’s first and only remanufactured all-electric battery powered bus. Regardless of how small or large the job, CCW provides an exceptionally experienced team of over 350 experts, committed to customer service and satisfaction.

Montebello Bus Lines is the third largest municipal bus operator in Los Angeles County. Its primary responsibility is to provide transportation services to residents of Montebello and neighboring cities. With a fleet of 66 buses, MBL serves over 8 million passengers a year throughout the communities of Alhambra, Bell Gardens, Boyle Heights, Commerce, Downtown Los Angeles, East Los Angeles, La Mirada, Montebello, Monterey Park, Pico Rivera, Rosemead, South Gate and Whittier.

The Passport-powered app introduces 3-Day Pass option

Tucson, Ariz. (Aug. 24, 2018) — Leaving home for college is a huge milestone with so much excitement to look forward to in the school year.  It’s also a time of great responsibility and independence. Students will make decisions on what classes to take, whether to work part-time and even how to spend weekends off-campus.  One decision students won’t have to consider is how to get around town.  A partnership with the City of Tucson and Passport makes moving throughout the City easy with the GoTucson Transit app.

This fall, Passport, the global leader of mobile payments for transit and parking, will introduce a 3-Day Pass into the GoTucson Transit app.  The 3-Day Pass is designed to allow families the flexibility of traveling on Sun Tran buses and the Sun Link streetcar at a discounted rate of $10. Whether families are helping students shop for last-minute items or visiting for an Arizona Wildcats football game — they have the option of commuting throughout the city on Tucson’s award-winning public transportation system.  Families will also have the option of downloading a 1-Day Pass or even a 30-Day Pass to fully experience the city’s public transit.

“We’re excited to introduce the 3-Day Pass as an option for families helping their students move in or visiting for a long weekend,” said Sun Tran General Manager Steve Spade. “Our passes will help families become better acquainted with the Tucson community and the GoTucson Transit app will allow visitors to have a convenient commute on Sun Tran and Sun Link.”

University of Arizona students are eligible for a 50 percent discount through the University. The semester fare pass is $96 per semester (normally $192) and will be available for purchase through Oct. 31. With the GoTucson Transit app students can plan, track and pay for their trip in one simple, secure app.  Upon purchase, students have immediate access to an e-ticket, avoiding queues for ticket sales.

“The GoTucson Transit app offers an easy way for students and families to get around from campus to other destinations throughout the city,” said Tom Wiese, Passport transit executive. “The app has been a part of the city’s public transportation since 2015 and it’s quite popular with students. With the new 3-Day Pass we expect students and parents to take full advantage of Tucson’s public transportation.”

Tucsonans have used the app nearly 170,000 times to buy tickets and ride the city’s transit.  The app is free to download through theApp Storeor GooglePlay.
